About McConnell Research Enterprises (Maxi-Steam)

Maxi-Steam, for engineered solutions to your cleaning problems
and problem cleaning

McConnell Research Enterprises Pty. Ltd. is an equipment designing and manufacturing company located at Mordialloc in the state of Victoria, Australia and is represented in overseas markets by agents as required.

We currently employ skilled staff engaged in design, manufacture, installation / supply and servicing of internal cleaning plants for railways around the world. The company specialises in the, until now, neglected area of supplying purpose-built equipment to provide rail operators with major productivity and quality improvements for mass transit vehicle cleaning, offering much more effective cleaning of all surfaces than ever before.

The company was established in 1980 by Peter McConnell, who, at the time, assessed the domestic carpet steam-cleaning market and ended up designing and manufacturing the prototype Maxi-Steam. The machine was innovative predominantly in its heat-exchange system (now patented), used to heat the water necessary for effective cleaning. The company soon gained recognition and appreciation and has expanded ever since, continually improving its design and manufacturing expertise. Peter is now the principal designer and managing director of the company.

John McConnell, the Company General Manager and Director, joined MRE in 1985 after six years operating his own cleaning operation. He was employed for 18 years with the State Rivers & Water Supply Commission in administration and spent the last eight years in the Secretariat, the hub of the organization. John's administrative experience coupled with Peter's mechanical and design expertise has seen the Company successfully grow and develop the many innovative products it now markets worldwide.

The company's efforts since 1989 have been directed largely at the problem areas of mass transport cleaning, namely internal surfaces and external surfaces not cleaned by the car wash, an area which has been badly lacking in productivity advances for many years. The result of these efforts has seen a revolution in both the quality and speed of the cleaning of railcars with, at the same time, realising a dramatic reduction in cleaning costs.

The development of the robotic bogie wash during 2000/2001 has taken MRE to another level of expertise and has provided a very high standard of cleaning of bogies and other parts as well as continuing to improve the working environment of the operators.
